Brillaint observation about wind being the real enemy in winter hiking. I've had similar expereiences where a few extra degres of warmth mean nothing if you're getting pelted by gusts on exposed terrain. That instinct to not linger on open ledges in one degree weather with wind shows solid judgment that a lot of folks learn the hard way.
