This past weekend we went and got our pumpkins! It was so fun to watch my kiddo pick out her pumpkin. She even picked one out for me. We also turned her car seat forward this weekend. I don’t know when my baby got so big but I feel like I blinked.

Last night was a Neighbors Feeding Neighbors meal. They were joined by Indigenous chefs and leaders. They had a brief presentation from the Abenaki Councils of Odanak and Wôlinak. They also gave a blessing on the meal. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there as I had a very sleepy toddler, but I was told it was a beautiful night.

This past Saturday I attended the last Saturday Market and Indoor Yard Sale at Bethel Methodist Church. I also attended Harvest Fest. Both had many beautiful pieces of art to check out. It was definitely a beautiful day for it.

I also want to mention I had a lovely neighbor reach out to let me know about the wonderful job the public works department did on the ditching on Intervale and their care for the Lady Slipper habitat. Thank you from the whole neighborhood!

Howe Family Farm is having their 7th annual Pumpkinfest from 10am-2pm this Saturday, September 26th. I hope to attend!

This week I began working on more projects for the upcoming Saturday Market. I also got to go to Mountain Greenery with my momma and got to treat her to a couple little trinkets that caught her eye. We had a good day window shopping together as well.

With that being said I’ll start with something easy. Hello, I’m Hayli. I am 23 years old, I’m a momma and a wife. To the beautiful woman who wrote this column before me I was Sunshine. I quickly jumped at the opportunity to write this column after my Oma passed away.

I spent last night looking through as many old copies of the paper as I could, getting all the birthdays and anniversaries I could that my Oma always remembered without fail. Of course I would love to say that I have got everyone down, but please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have someone I missed or with any news or events that are coming in the future.

This past Saturday, September 5^th, was the Saturday Market at Bethel Methodist Church. I hope all vendors had a very fulfilling day. The next Saturday Market will be on September 19th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is also the weekend of Harvest Fest. I myself hope to enter the market that weekend. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Harvest Fest and all vendors in the market have a successful day.

Tuesday, September 8th there was a Neighbors Feeding Neighbors meal at Bethel Methodist Church from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This is an event I hold very near and dear to my heart. My mother saw a need in the community and jumped in to help. My Oma helped and attended every meal she could. With my Oma’s sudden and unexpected passing, the volunteers of Neighbors Feeding Neighbors were very quick to step in and ensure the meal could still happen. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all of them for this. I was in attendance, and though it was hard, it was also exactly what I feel myself and my family needed right now: Community.

My Oma seemed to always end these columns with a fun fact, a trivia question, or asking about favorite seasonal/holiday festivities of the readers. I intend to do the same. As a first-time mom I am always curious to hear of family traditions for all the seasons and holidays and fall is within reach so, what are your favorite fall traditions you do with your families? Call me at (207) 595-5930 or email me at haylist.laurent22@gmail.com. I look forward to connecting with you. Have a lovely week!

Nina Mollicone reported that her mother, Marilyn R. Noyes Mollicone, who grew up in East Bethel, is one of the folks depicted in the Cart Mural, a permanent art installation created by Maine artists Chris Cart and Jen Greta Cart, which was unveiled at the Bailey Public Library in Winthrop Monday evening.

Nina grew up in Winthrop. Her mother was selected as a person who contributed substantially to Winthrop and surrounding communities. Marilyn was a botanist and an educator. She introduced many Winthrop children to nature appreciation through the years as she raised her family. She was the director of the Augusta Nature Camp for children for 19 years and was a founding member of what is now Viles Arboretum in Augusta. She returned to graduate school at the age of 58, making significant research contributions in the field of microscopic fungi. Nina feels very honored that her mother was chosen to be included in the mural.

The Saturday Market is on August 8 at the Bethel Methodist Church from 9 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. while the Summer Fest is also happening. Yes, I do call it Summer Fest as I respect and accept the wishes of our fellow Native citizens. The name change hadn’t altered the event rather than the changes made by organizers over the years. Aho.

On Tuesday, August 11, the Neighbors Feeding Neighbors community dinner is from 4:30 till 6:30 p.m. at the Bethel Methodist Church. Bring your appetite and some non-perishable food donations. What a great way to socialize and support our community.

Saturday was a bit on the windy side which made things difficult for the vendors at the Saturday Market. It is such an enjoyable event each time. I found a really nice cutting board at their indoor yard sale. Many may not realize that there is also always some fresh brewed coffee waiting for visitors.
